Dai Endurance Athlete of the Month is…..DC Hays!!

This past month we featured local master’s racer DC Hays! He’s a super rad guy as well as great athlete! Here’s a little from DC himself…

Q. What do you do in real life
A. I am a Program manager at a energy conservation Non-Profit
Q. What are your weaknesses?
A. I want to feel like a rocket up the hills and be able to crush it all day! not quite          there yet.
Q. Why are you training?
A. Sea Otter, Wente 8 hour solo single speed, Belgian Waffle ride, mother lode            epic and the California Dirt series.

Q. Do you partake in any Dai Endurance Classes/Training/Fitting?
A. I’m am training with Julie
Q. What’s your ideal sporting event to attend or compete?
A. Mtb or Cyclocross love them both, Wente 8hour mtb race is probably my          favorite.
Q. Do you have a pre-ride/run food you like to have?
A. Coffee hot or iced, always coffee. eggs and avocado. cheese aged sharp cheddar.

Q. What is your favorite food to eat post training?
A. I try and eat real food (natural), no box stuff, very little carbs except beer after        hard rides. C’mon!
Q. How do you stop yourself from eating unhealthy foods?

A. Will power! I’m crazy stubborn ask anyone in my family.
Q. What’s the strangest or most embarrassing crash you’ve ever had?
A. It’s all about the coffee! 2 or 3 years ago I was riding through the start area at a TBF Mtb race with a large coffee in my hand and I hit a rut and I went sailing off the bike Pete Rose style, tore my leg up and had to go to the medic to get cleaned up and wrapped up. I didn’t spill a drop of that coffee, I drank it while the EMT bandaged me up.
Q.  What do you think about during long training rides/runs/workouts to stave off the boredom?
A.  Training rides I focus on the task of the day, cadence, speed or position. if I’m just riding I like to let it all go just be in the moment, be part of my surroundings. These rides keep me sane. I like to ride with my son Damien he is probably my favorite person to ride with. He kills me!
Q. Why do you train with Dai Endurance?
A. Two words… Julie Young! I trust her completely with my training, we race together and she is one of my unsung heroes. (she didn’t know this) I feel extremely lucky to have her in my corner moving forward.
